Are you ready to experience blazing-fast internet speeds with your new Telstra Smart Modem? In this article, I’ll guide you through the simple steps to set up your modem and connect to your nbn service. Whether you have nbn Fibre to the Premise (FTTP) or nbn Fixed Wireless, we’ve got you covered. Get ready to revolutionize your internet experience!
Getting Started: What You Need to Know
Before we dive into the setup process, let’s make sure you have everything you need. Grab your Telstra Smart Modem, the cables that came with it, and take a moment to read through the Health & Safety information and incompatible devices. Safety first, my friend!
But that’s not all. You’ll also need to decide where you’ll be placing your modem. Remember, we want to maximize the Wi-Fi signal throughout your home, so avoid stashing it in a cabinet or hiding it behind large objects.
Let’s Get Connected: Step-by-Step Guide
Now that you’re all set, let’s start the setup process. Follow these simple steps to set up your Telstra Smart Modem:
- Unplug any devices connected to telephone ports around your home.
- Retrieve your modem from the box and locate the cord with one yellow end and one red end.
- Connect the yellow end of the cord to the yellow port on the nbn connection box.
- Plug the red end of the cord into the red port on the Smart Modem.
- The power cord for the Smart Modem should already be connected. Take the grey power adaptor, plug it into a nearby power outlet, and switch it on.
And just like that, your Telstra Smart Modem will start up. The light at the front will turn white, indicating that the device has powered up. As it connects to the internet, the light will turn orange, and once the connection is established, it will turn green. Don’t worry if the light changes back and forth between these colors during startup—it’s perfectly normal.
The startup and connection process usually takes around 15 minutes, but in some cases, it may take up to half an hour. Once the light settles on green, congratulations! You’re ready to enjoy a seamless internet experience.
Connecting Your Devices: Wi-Fi or Ethernet?
Now that your modem is up and running, it’s time to connect your devices. You have two options: Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Choose the one that works best for you.
Wi-Fi Connection
To connect your devices via Wi-Fi, refer to the fridge magnet that came with your Smart Modem. It contains all the login details you need. Simply follow the instructions, and you’ll be connected in no time.
Ethernet Connection
If you prefer a wired connection, grab the LAN cable (the one with two yellow ends). Connect one end to any yellow port on the Telstra Smart Modem and the other end to your device’s network port. It’s as simple as that!
If you also want to plug in your home phone, follow the same Ethernet cable steps, but this time, use the cable with grey ends. Plug one end into the green phone port on the modem and the other into your home phone. Remember to keep your modem switched on to make and receive calls.
We’re Ready to Go!
