Compatible Modems

Before we begin, it’s important to note that this guide is applicable to the following Spark Smart Modem models:

If you’re not using a fiber connection, the settings we’ll be modifying might not be available. However, you can still benefit from our Wi-Fi Lifeguard router, which features speedy Wi-Fi 6 technology.

Step 1: Install DNS

Let’s start by installing the DNS settings. Follow these steps:

  1. Open a web browser (such as Google Chrome or Firefox) and enter the address 192.168.1.254 into the top search bar.
  2. In the password box, type admin, and then click the Login button.
  3. On the left-hand sidebar, click the Network menu, followed by the WAN tab.
  4. Within the first row, click the Edit button.
  5. Scroll down to the WAN DNS Setting section and click the No button next to “Connect to DNS Server automatically.”
  6. Copy and paste the following addresses into the respective text boxes:
    • DNS Server1: 104.197.28.121
    • DNS Server2: 104.155.237.225
  7. Click the “Save settings” button. Once the changes have been saved, click the Logout button at the upper-right corner.
  8. To verify the protection installation, visit ExampleAdultSite.com in your web browser. This site should now be blocked.

Step 2: Sync IP (optional)

If you’re a Safe Surfer Pro Surfer subscriber, you can access comprehensive parental controls through the Safe Surfer dashboard. To use the sync IP feature, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Devices menu on the left-hand sidebar of the Safe Surfer dashboard and click the “+ New Device” button.
  2. Select “Wi-Fi & network > Use my existing router.”
  3. Enter a name for your device and click the Accept button.
  4. Go back to the Devices menu and click the Connect button under the device listing you just created.
  5. Click the Plain DNS field and then click the Link button to sync any custom block settings.
  6. Open the Blocking menu, select the router device from the blue bubble, and start blocking categories.
  7. Click the Save button once you’re done. Please note that these changes might take a minute to sync over.
